Abstract: The invention comprises water-soluble dyes of the formula in which Z(+) is a cation and Y is one of the radicals: or wherein one of the symbols X is chlorine and the other is hydrogen. The dyes are made by heating 1 - amino - 4 - (3 - aminophenyl)-amino-anthraquinone - 2 - sulphonic acid or a salt thereof with sulphuric acid containing about 10 to 50% of free sulphur trioxide at temperatures between 20 DEG and 80 DEG C. and acylating the 3-amino group with acrylic acid chloride, bromide or anhydride, a - or b -chloroacrylic acid chloride, a -methacrylic acid chloride, chloromaleic anhydride, propinic acid chloride, b -chloropropionic acid chloride, b -bromopropionic acid bromide or a : b -dichloropropionic acid chloride. Examples are given. The dyes dye and print materials of natural or regenerated cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, natural or synthetic polyamides, leather and paper in reddish-blue shades.
