Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coloring product which has color fastness and gloss, excellent washing and friction fastness and is useful for fire-proofing suits by treating a specific condensate based on melamine and formaldehyde with an aqueous formulation containing pigments and binders. SOLUTION: A mixture of (A) 90-99.9mol% of a mixture of 30-99mol% of melamine with 1-70mol% of a substituted melamine (mixture thereof) of the formula [individual Ys are independently H, a hydroxy-2-10C-alkyl where one or more Y are not H] with (B) 0.1-10mol% of phenol, bis(hydroxyphenyl)sulfone or their mixture and formaldehyde or its donor are condensed at a molar ratio of 1/1.15-1/4.5. This condensate product is treated with an aqueous preparation containing pigments and binders at 10-200 deg.C.
