Abstract: PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain a paper product well maintaining a filler or the like from a paper material containing foreign matters in a shorter draining time than a conventional method by using a specified polymer as a draining agent and holding agent to drain water from the paper material. CONSTITUTION: The paper product is obtd. by subjecting a paper material containing foreign matters to draining treatment in the presence of a polymer having units expressed by formula I and formula II and having >=130 K-value (in 5 wt.% aq. soln. of sodium chloride under the conditions of 0.1 wt.% polymer concn. at 25 deg.C measured by H.Finkentscher method) and having and R is H and/or a 1-6C alkyl group. The aforementioned polymer is prepared by (co)polymerizing an N-vinylamide expressed by formula III such as N-vinyl formamide to obtain the (co)polymer having the unit I, and then hydrolyzing the (co)polymer in an acid at 50 to 120 deg.C until
