Abstract: The magnetic tape transport includes supply and take-up reels (23, 24) whch are ruged towards a capstan (21). Tape tension is kept constant by magnetic brakes (14, 15) on the reel shafts, which apply tape pack dia. dependent braking torques and vary the bias towards the capstan according to the required acceleration/deceleration. The brakes penetrate into the magnetic field(s) of at least one fixed magnetic system (28) to produce a braking effect by interaction with the field(s). Hysteresis or eddy current braking may be used and an electromagnet may supply the field(s).

Abstract: The conversion system consists of an input and an output group for a data signal. The number of inputs and outputs differ in accordance with the conversion ratio, and there is a logic circuit connecting the two groups and consisting of AND and OR circuits, by which several inputs of the input group are linked to an output of the output group. ]The input group consists for data storage of four parallel inputs (1, 2, 4, 8), and the output group of six parallel outputs (A-F). The ratio of inputs to outputs is reversed for reproduction of stored data. Each output of the output group consists of the output of an OR circuit, whose inputs are connected through AND circuits, partly through OR circuits and partly directly to the whole of the input group. Code convertor inputs and outputs are partly inverting.

Abstract: A storage method for coded data divided into individual data blocks involves storage in an magnetic medium of corresp. parallel grouped data signals and error detection and correction circuits for data retrieval. It is designed for high recording density with high error immunity and average expense without necessitating an increase in the degree of redundancy of the code used for recording. Parallel grouped data signals from each block are first intermediately stored and then transferred to the recording medium in series and in accordance with a priority number. For retrieval the data is read from the medium into the intermediate store row by row a corresp. to the parallel group priorities. Reconstructed data groups are then connected and inverted where necessary.
