Abstract: Dye mixtures used for dyeing fur skins black comprise by weight 55 to 74% of a dye having the general formula wherein R1 is a chlorine atom or a methyl, methoxy, amino, acetylamino or benzoylamino group which may contain halogen, methyl or a methoxy group in the phenyl group and R2 is hydrogen, a sulphonic acid or a sulphonamide group, 21 to 36% Acid Orange 7 (sulphonilic acid-->b -naphthol); 3.5 to 9.1% Acid Violet 15 and 1.5 to 3.9% Acid Violet 21 (triphenyl methane dyestuffs).ALSO:Fur skins, e.g. sheep, rabbit and musquash are dyed black using dye mixtures comprising by weight 55 to 74% of a dye having the general formula wherein R1 denotes a chlorine atom or a methyl, methoxy, amino, acetylamino, or benzoylamino group which may be substituted in the phenyl group by halogen, methyl or methoxy, and R2 is hydrogen, a sulphonic acid or sulphonamide group, 21 to 36% Acid Orange 7; 3.5 to 9.1% Acid Violet 15 and 1.5 to 3.9% Acid Violet 21.

Abstract: Plaster of Paris and cement are coloured by incorporating a reddish-yellow pigment of the formula wherein X is NH, R1 is Cl and R2 is H.ALSO:In examples, a yellow pigment of the formula wherein X is NH is (2) ground with nitrocellulose, dibutyl phthalate and an ethyl alcohol/ethyl glycol mixture to form a printing colour; (3) mixed with a lacquer made from nitrocellulose, dibutyl phthalate, benzyl butyl phthalate, the product obtained by reacting cyclohexanone with sodium hydroxide, butyl acetate, methyl acetate and toluene; (4) mixed with polystyrene or polyethylene and homogenized by extrusion; and (5) mixed with a rubber mixture containing pale crepe rubber, sulphur, stearic acid, 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, hexamethylene tetramine, zinc oxide chalk and titanium dioxide and the mix vulcanized.ALSO:The invention comprises pigments of the general formula in which X is NH or O and which may be substituted by alkyl, alkoxy and/or halogen and in which the rings A and/or E may be fused with a further benzene ring, having a mean particle size in the range of from 0.02 to 1 micron. The pigments are made by reacting 2 : 3-dichlorquinoxalines with 2 : 3-diamino quinoxalines or 2 : 3-aminohydroxy quinoxalines followed if necessary by a particle-size reduction treatment such as acid-pasting and/or salt-milling in the presence or absence of water or solvents. The pigments colour a variety of materials in yellow shades. In examples (1) a yellow printing ink is made by grinding together aluminium hydroxide and a linseed oil varnish with a pigment of the above formula carrying no substituents or fused rings and wherein X is NH (fluorubin); and (6) a yellow wallpaper colour is made by adding a paste of the same pigment to a mixture of heavy spar, aluminium sulphate and sodium carbonate in water, adding a barium chloride solution and mixing the precipitate obtained with glue solution.

Abstract: 2, 3 dichloroquinozalines are reacted, in the presence of an N di alkyl carboxylic acid amide (including an N-alkyl-lactam) which is liquid under the conditions chosen, with ammonia, an amine having at least one hydrogen atom on nitrogen, an aryl sulphonamide, a hydroxy aryl or aryl mercapto compound to give a 3 chloroquinozaline substituted in the 2-position by an amino, sulphonamide, aryloxy or arylthio group. The product has the general formula in which R1, R2, R3 and R4 are hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy and/or halogen, or two of these radicles which are adjacent form a carboxylic ring with the benzene ring of the quinoxaline and R is amino (which may be substituted) arylsulphonamide, aryloxy or arylthio. In examples the preparation of 2-amino-6 [chloro, methyl or methoxyl] 3 chloroquinoxalines 2-(p nitroanilino)-2-(pmethyl anilino)-, 2-(p chloranilino)-2 (N methyl anilino) 2-(p methylphenoxy)-, 2-(p chlorophenoxy)-, 2-(p nitrophenoxy)-, and 2(p toluene sulphonamido)-3 chloroquinoxalines is given. A mixture of solvents together with other solvents can be used, and are specified. Products of the above formula, except those having R as amino or substituted amino, are claimed as novel.

Abstract: 1,162,808. Benzoates of basic dyes; inks. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 29 Dec., 1966 [30 Dec., 1965], No. 58121/66. Headings C4A and C4P. The invention comprises benzoates of basic dyes of the diphenyl or triphenyl methane, xanthene, monoxazine and heterocyclic methine series, wherein the benzoate radical is derived from a benzoic acid of the formula wherein X represents H, halogen, amino, OH, OCH 3 , alkyl, C 6 H 5 CO, CH 3 CO or an esterified carboxylic group and Y represents H, Cl, amino or OH; which are soluble in alcohols but practically insoluble in water. They may be obtained by reacting a salt of a basic dye with a salt of a benzoic acid of the above formula or by reacting a free dye base with a free benzoic acid of the above formula. Examples are given for the production of the compounds. Printing inks and ball point pen inks are obtained from the above dye salts. In Example (7) a flexographic printing ink is obtained by dissolving a dye in alcohol, ethyl cellosolve and shellac, and (8), (9) a glycol printing ink and a ball point pen ink are obtained by dissolving dyes in a phthalic acid hexanetriol ester and diethylene glycol.

Abstract: Plaster of Paris and cement are coloured red with a pigment of the formula ALSO:In examples, a pigment of the formula (2) wherein X is NH and rings A and D are each linearly fused with benzene rings, is ground with nitrocellulose, dibutyl phthalate and an ethyl alcohol/ethyl glycol mixture to give a yellow printing colour; (3) wherein X is 0, is mixed with a lacquer containing nitrocellulose, dibutylphthalate, benzyl butyl phthalate, the product obtained by treating cyclohexanone with sodium hydroxide, butyl acetate, methyl acetate, and toluene to give a greenish-yellow lacquer, (pigments wherein X is NH, ring D forms part of a phenazine residue and ring A may or may not be linearly fused to a benzene ring may also be used); (4) wherein X is NH, ring D forms part of a phenazine residue and ring A is linearly fused to a benzene ring, is ground with xylene and a mixture of linseed oil and the esterification product from phthalic acid, glycerin and pentaerythritol to give a red-orange lacquer; (5) wherein X is NH and ring D is linearly fused to a benzene ring, is ground with an unsaturated polyester resin drying without the aid of paraffin and then mixed with monostyrene, a cyclohexanone peroxide paste in dibutyl phthalate, cobalt naphthenate in white spirit and silicone oil in xylene to give a yellow paint for wood; (6) wherein X is 0 and ring D forms part of an anthraquinone residue, is mixed with polyvinyl chloride, di-isooctyl phthalate and titanium dioxide to give a red polyvinyl chloride; and (7) wherein X is NH, is mixed and homogenised with polystyrene granulate or polyethylene to give a yellow plastic.ALSO:Quinoxaline derivatives of the formula wherein X is NH, O or S and which may carry substituents and/or other rings fused linearly or angularly are made by heating a 2 : 3-dichlorquinoxaline at a temperature above about 125 DEG C. with an appropriate o-diamino-, o-amino-hydroxy- or o-amino-mercapto-aromatic or heterocyclic compound at a mol. ratio of about 1 : 1 using a carboxylic acid-N : N-dialkylamide as a solvent. The invention also comprises pigments of the above formula wherein X is NH, O or S and which may be substituted and/or have linearly fused rings, having a mean particle size in the range of from 0.02 to 1 micron. The pigments may be made by the process above and then if necessray be subjected to salt-milling or acid-pasting. When additional fused rings are present these may be such that ring A in the formula above also forms part of a naphthalene nucleus and/or ring D also forms part of naphthalene, anthracene, anthraquinone or phenazine nuclei. The pigments colour a variety of materials. In examples (1) a yellow printing ink is made by grinding aluminium hydroxide and a linseed oil varnish with one of a number of pigments of the above general formula, and a yellow wall-paper colour is made by mixing a paste of a pigment of the above general formula where a benzene ring is linearly fused to ring D with heavy spar, aluminium sulphate, sodium carbonate and water, adding barium chloride and mixing the precipitate obtained with glue solution.
