    Abstract: 2.4 - Dihydroxyquinazoline - 6 - sulphodimethylamide or sulphomethylanilide is obtained from 2.4-dihydroxyquinazoline by treatment with chlorsulphonic acid and reaction of the sulphochloride so obtained with dimethylamine or methylaniline. 2.4 - Dichlorquinazoline - 6 - sulphodimethylamide or sulphomethylanilide are obtained from the 2.4-dihydroxy bodies by reaction with phosphorus pentachloride and oxychloride. 2.4-Dihydroxy - 6 - chlorquinazoline - 8 - sulphodimethylamide is obtained from 2.4-dihydroxy-6-chlorquinazoline by treatment with chlorsulphonic acid, and reaction of the sulphochloride with dimethylamine. It may be reacted with phosphorus penta- and oxychlorides to give 2,4,6-trichlorquinazoline-8-sulphodimethylamide. 2,4-Dihydroxy - 7 - trifluoromethylquinazoline is obtained by fusion of urea with 2 - amino - 4 - trifluoromethyl benzoic acid. It may be converted to 2,4 - dichlor - 7 - trifluoromethylquinazoline by reaction with phosphorus penta- and oxy-chlorides.ALSO:Vat dyes are made by heating 2 mols of identical or different water-insoluble amines of the anthraquinone series with 1 mol. of a 2, 4 - dihalogenquinazoline containing a sulphonamide group or a trifluoromethyl group and, if desired, one or more further halogen atoms. Inert solvents, e.g., nitrobenzene, di - or tri - chlorbenzene, and acid - binding agents such as sodium acetate potassium carbonate, or pyridine, may be used. The products dye natural or regenerated cellulose and nylon. In examples, (1) 2, 4 - dichlorquinazoline - 6 - sulphodimethylamide is reacted with (a) 1 - amino - 4 or 5 - benzoylaminoanthraquinone, (b) 2 - aminoanthraquinone, (c) 1 - amino - 4 - methoxy - anthraquinone, (d) 1, 4 - diamino - 2 acetylanthraquinone; (2) 2, 4 - dichlorquinazoline - 6 - sulphomethylanilide is reacted with (a) 1 - amino - 4 or 5 - benzoylamino - anthraquinone (b) 1 - or 2 - aminoanthraquinone, (c) 1 - amino - 5 - chlor - or 4 - methoxy anthraquinone; (3) 2, 4, 6 - trichlorquinazoline - 8 - sulphodimethylamide is reacted with (a) 1 - amino - 4 or 5 - benzoylamino - anthraquinone, (b) 1 - amino - 4 - methoxyanthraquinone, (c) 1 or 2 - aminoanthraquinone; (4) 2, 4 - dichlor - 7 - trifluoromethyl - quinazoline is reacted with (a) 1 or 2 - aminoanthraquinone, (b) 1 - amino 4 or 5 - benzoylamino - anthraquinone, (c) 1 - amino - 5 or 6-chloranthraquinone, (d) 1 - amino - 4 - methoxy - anthraquinone, (e) 3 - trifluoromethyl - 7 - amino - 5, 6 - phthaloylacridone, (f) 1.4 - diamino - 2 - acetyl - anthraquinone; (5) 2, 4 - dichlorquinazoline - 6 - sulphomethylanilide is reacted with 1 mol. each of 1 - aminoanthraquinone and 1 - amino - 4 or 5 - benzoylaminoanthraquinone successively, and (6) 2, 4 - dichlor - 7 - trifluoromethyl - quinazoline is similarly reacted with 1 - aminoanthraquinone and 1, 4 - diamino - 2 - acetyl - anthraquinone or 2, 4 - dichlor - 7 - amino 1 5, 6 - phthaloyl-acridone.
