Abstract: The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein the group COX is attached at position 12 or 13 of the phthaloperinone nucleus, X is SR or preferably OR, R is H or an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl radical, and may be substituted, Y is Cl or Br, m is 0-4, n is 0 or 1. The compounds are prepared by condensing trimellitic acid or an acid derivative thereof or halogenated trimellitic acid with 1,8-diaminonaphthalene or a halogenated derivative. The phthaloperinone carboxylic acid may be esterified and/or halogenated.
