Abstract: For cleaning or smoothing the surface of a material web (2), the latter is passed over at least one blade (4), the web being pressed against the blade edge (10) by means of a vacuum. The opening (9) of a vacuum chamber (8) formed next to the blade (4) is adjustable with respect to the blade edge (10), so that different flows and forces can be set.
