Abstract: Nitriles are prepd. by reacting an N-unsubstd. monocarboxamide (I) with COCl2 in the presence of 0.2 mole of an N,N-disubstd. aliphatic carboxamide and 2.0 mole of a tert. amine, per mole of (I). High yields (e.g. 90-100%) are obtd. without resin formation or prod. discoloration. The prods. are useful as inters. for dyes and pesticides.
