Abstract: A composition for brightening fibrous materials comprises at least one compound from each of the formulae: and in which A is an aliphatic or aromatic-aliphatic radical, B is an aromatic radical and R1, R2, R11, and R12 are hydrogen or aliphatic or aromatic-aliphatic radicals and may be the same or different. The amino groups may be in the 7 position and the remaining carbon atoms in the benzene ring and the 3 carbon atom may bear aliphatic substituents. Radicals A specified include aliphatic radicals of one to eight carbon atoms and phenyl substituted aliphatic radicals. The radical B may be phenyl. The aminocoumarins may be used in the form of salts with hydrochloric, sulphuric, benzene or naphthalene mono- or disulphonic acids or as a reaction product with sodium formaldehyde bisulphite. In examples, (2), textile material is bleached with an aqueous liquor containing 4, 6-dimethyl-7 ethylamino-coumarin, 4-phenyl- 6-methyl-7 ethylamino-coumarin, sodium dithionite (Na2S2O4), tetrasodium pyrophosphate and the purified sodium salt of sulphite cellulose waste liquor, at a temperature of 45 DEG to 50 DEG C.; (3) textile materials of wool, silk, polycaprolactam, nylon and cellulose acetate are treated with an aqueous composition containing a fatty alcohol sulphonate, sodium sulphate, sodium phosphates, 4,6-dimethyl -7 ethylaminocoumarin, 4 phenyl-6-methyl -7 ethylaminocoumarin and the sodium salt of sulphite cellulose waste liquor. In example (1), flocks, yarns and fabrics of wool, silk, nylon, polycaprolactam, regenerated cellulose, cotton, linen, cellulose esters, terephthalic acid glycol ester fibres and polyacrylonitrile fibres are treated in neutral or weakly acid or alkaline baths at room or elevated temperature with the same mixture of aminocoumarins as in (2) and (3) but with no additives. Reference is also made to compositions containing oxidising agents (not specified).

Abstract: 1453130 Dyeing natural polyamides BASF AG 6 March 1974 [7 March 1973] 9993/74 Heading D1B Natural polyamide fibres are dyed in brilliant pastel shades with a dye which is absorbed from an acid medium using the padbatch method the impregnation liquor containing up to 7% by weight (based on the fibres to be dyed) of hydrogen peroxide or the equivalent amount of performic acid. Preferably the dwell time is 10 to 24 hours and the dwell temperature is about 20‹C. The hydrogen peroxide may be in the form of an adduct of urea and hydrogen peroxide but is preferably a 30 to 50% aqueous solution. Metal-free acid dyes may be used to dye wool, silk and animal hair.

Abstract: Performic acid in aqueous solution, obtained by reacting hydrogen peroxide with at least one substance yielding formaldehyde, a low molecular weight formic ester, or a low molecular medium, is used as a bleach bath. Substances yielding formaldehyde have at least one group of formula Y-CH2-X where Y is nitrogen or oxygen, X is nitrogen or oxygen or a -SO3M group where M is a proton, ammonium ion, an alkali metal ion or half an alkaline earth metal ion. Examples are given and include formaldehyde polymers, formals, hydroxymethane sulphonic acid, amino methane sulponic acid and others. Low molecular weight formic esters and formamide have the general formula in which Q is a radical -OR or R being alkyl (1-5 C), R1 and R2 hydrogen atoms or alkyl groups (1-5 C), e.g. methylbutyl formates, and diethyl formamide. Additional components which prevent a drop in pH value during the bleaching may be hexamethylene tetramine, formamide, dimethyl formamide, aminomethanesulphonic acid, iminobismethanesulphonic acid and their alkyl derivatives and salts.ALSO:Bleach liquor for synthetic or natural protein fibres containing performic acid is prepared by reacting hydrogen peroxide with at least one substance yielding formaldehyde, a low molecular weight formic ester, or a low molecular weight formamide in an acid or neutral aqueous medium (see Division C2), and if desired the solution may be diluted and adjusted to a pH of 1 to 8.5 formaldehyde polymers; hydroxymethane-sulphonic acid and its sodium, potassium, and calcium salts; the reaction products of this acid with ammonia, and hexamethylene tetramine are the preferred reactants with hydrogen peroxide. Stabilisers for the active oxygen such as alkali metal polyphosphates; magnesium silicate; magnesium phosphate; and complex-forming amino-polycarboxylic acids may be present together with wetting agents, detergents and/or softening agents and optical brighteners. Simultaneous bleaching and dyeing of proteinaceous fibrous material may be carried out at elevated temperatures using the bleach solutions above containing 0.2 to 10 gm./litre of active oxygen and wool dyes which are resistant to oxygen such as acid azo, acid anthraquinone, 1:1 metal complex and 1:2 metal complex dyes. Conventional assistants such as levelling and wetting agents, carriers, dispensing agents, buffer salts, neutral salts and fibre protectives may also be present. A brightening or antifelt finishing by chlorine, may also be carried out in the same liquor. Many examples describe the use of the liquor in winch, cheese, pack, tops or cross-wound bobbin, and suspension dyeing machines to process wool-polyacrylonitrile, wool-rayon, wool, wool-polyster, nylon, pig-bristles and feathers.
