Abstract: Determination of methyl isothiocyanate (I) comprises adding (I) to a reagent comprising (a) iodine or polyiodide salt, (b) starch, dextrin or cyclodextrin and (c) an alkali metal or ammonium azide and determining the time from addition of (I) until discoloration of the complex formed by components (a) and (b). An Independent claim is also included for a composition in standardized form, comprising (a) iodine or polyiodide salt, (b) starch, dextrin or cyclodextrin and (c) an alkali metal or ammonium azide and optionally (d) ammonia or a primary or secondary amine.
