    Abstract: The invention comprises a copper phthalocyanine dye of the formula wherein CuPc represents copper phthalocyanine and on a statistical average m denotes from 2.1 to 2.5 and n denotes 0.5 to 0.9 and the sum of m and n is 3. It may be obtained by heating Cu phthalocyanine with ClSO3H for 3 hours at about 130 DEG C. and the reaction product treated with thionyl chloride to form the Cu phthalocyanine trisulphochloride, the reaction mixture treated with sufficient aqueous NH3 to produce the sulphamide having the above formula. An example is given in which m and n in the product are 2.25 and 0.75 respectively. The dye may be used for colouring paper reddish blue.

    Abstract: Shaped structures such as fibres, flocks, fabrics, felts or foils, of linear aromatic polyesters are dyed or printed with a dyestuff of the formula:- in which X represents a halogen atom or an alkyl, alkoxy, aryl or cyano group and n one of the numbers 0, 1 or 2, at least one n being other than zero. Dyeing or padding may be effected at 80 DEG -100 DEG C. in the presence of carriers such as benzoic acid, o-hydroxybenzoic acid or their methyl esters, or diphenyl or its 2- or 4-hydroxy derivatives. Dyeing may also be effected at temperatures above 100 DEG C. under pressure. Prints are subsequently heated or steamed. Numerous examples are given. The dyestuffs are made by condensing phthalic acid or its anhydride, amide or imide with 2-methyl-3-hydroxy-quinoline and subsequently introducing the halogen atoms or the above specified groups into the condensate. Alternatively, one or both constituents of the condensation product may contain the halogen atoms or the above specified groups prior to condensation.

    Abstract: The invention comprises phthalocyanine pigment mixtures containing from 10 to 20 mol. per cent of a phthalocyanine of the formula wherein Pc is the radical of a phthalocyanine, R1 is hydrogen or an unsubstituted or substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, R2 is an unsubstituted or substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon radical or, together with R1, a heterocyclic ring and n is 1, 2, 3 or 4. Examples describe copper chloro-phthalocyanines containing respectively the hydrochlorides of tri-(hexamethylene - aminomethyl) - and tetra-(pentamethylene - aminomethyl) copper phthalocyanines.     Abstract: The invention comprises phthalocyanine pigment mixtures containing 0.5-10 mole per cent of a phthalocyanine of the formula where Pc is a phthalocyanine radical, R1 is hydrogen or a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, R2 is a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic hydrocarbon radical or, when taken together with R1, a heterocyclic ring, and n is a number from 1-4. The mixtures are made by (a) simply mixing the phthalocyanine of the above formula with a phthalocyanine not resistant to flocculation, for example during acid pasting, by grinding, by heating together in an organic solvent or by preparing a suspension of the phthalocyanine not resistant to flocculation in an aqueous solution of the hydrochloride of the phthalocyanine of the above formula and adding sodium hydroxide, (b) synthesizing phthalocyanines using phthalic acid derivatives a proportion of which contain a radical of the formula or (c) partially chloromethylating a phthalocyanine and reacting the mixture obtained with an amine of the formula Examples are given.     Abstract: 4 - Bromo - 3 - hydroxyquinophthalone is obtained when a melt containing 3-hydroxyquinophthalone (obtained by condensation of 3-hydroxyquinaldine or its -4-carboxylic acid with an excess of phthalic anhydride) is cooled to 150-180 DEG C. and liquid Br2 is added. The temperature is preferably 150-160 DEG C. and the bromine may be slowly added to the surface of the melt while stirring. Examples are given.
