Abstract: The invention relates to quinophtalone derivatives of the general formula (I), wherein R , R , R and R independently represent hydrogen, halogen or a C1-C4 alkyl; R represents -SO3H, -SO3 N R R R R , SO2NR R , -CH2NR R , -CH2R , -COOH, -COO N R R R R , -COOR , -COR , -NO2 or C1-C4 alkyl; R , R , R and R independently represent hydrogen; C1-C22 alkyl or C2-C22 alkenyl, whose carbon chains can be interrupted by one or more groups -O-, -S-, -NR -, -CO- or -SO2- and/or which can be mono- or polysubstituted by hydroxy, halogen, aryl, C1-C4 alkoxy and/or acetyl; C3-C8 cycloalkyl, whereby the carbon skeleton can be interrupted by one more groups -O-, -S-, -NR - or -CO- and/or which can be mono- or polysubstituted by hydroxy, halogen, aryl, C1-C4 alkoxy and/or acetyl; dehydroabietyl or aryl; R and R or R , R and R together represent a 5 to 7 membered cyclic group that contains the nitrogen atom and that may contain further heteroatoms; R represents a group of the formula (a), R represents one of the alkyl groups R ; R represents hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl; X , X and X independently represent arylene that may be substituted by halogen, arylsulfonyl or -COR or -CO-C6H4-CO-; R represents C1-C3 alkyl or phenyl.
