Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To convert a crude pigment to the subject form of pigment suitable to use having good fluidity and bright and clear deep color by treating the crude pigment with an acidic aromatic organic medium in the presence of a copper phthalocyanine derivative and water. SOLUTION: A crude pigment is converted to the form of pigment suitable to use by the following procedure: A halogenated copper phthalocyanine crude pigment containing 4-50.3 wt.% chlorine is treated with a liquid acidic aromatic organic medium preferably a compound of formula II (X is hydroxy or carboxy; benzene ring D may contain nitro, a 1-4C alkyl or the like) (e.g. 2-nitrophenol, 1-naphthol) preferably in the presence of a copper phthalocyanine derivative of formula I [A and B are each a group of the formula; SO3 M, CO2 M (M is H or an alkali metal) or the like; (m) is 0-4.0; (n) is 0-4.0] such as a copper phthalocyanine-sulfonic acid, a copper phthalocyanine-carboxylic acid or an alkali metal salt thereof, if necessary, in the presence of water and at increased temperature.
