Abstract: Defoaming agents based on oil in water emulsions in which the oil phase forms 5 to 50 wt % of the emulsions and consists essentially of mixtures of: (a) fatty acid esters of C12 to C22 carboxylic acids with mono to trivalent C1 to C22 alcohols, (b) polyglycerine esters obtainable by the at least 20 % esterification of polyglycerines containing at least 2 glycerine units with at least one C12 to C36 fatty acid, and (c) fatty acid esters of C12 to C22 carboxylic acids and polyalkylene glycols, the molar mass of the polyalkylene glycols being up to 5000 g/mol, and possibly (d) long-chained alcohols, fatty acid esters from alcohols with at least 22 C atoms and C1 to C36 carboxylic acids, distillation residues obtainable in the production of alcohols with a higher carbon number by oxosynthesis or by the Ziegler process and which may be alkoxylated, and/or (e) hydrocarbons with a boiling point of over 200 DEG C or fatty acids with 12 to 22 carbon atoms; and the use of the defoaming agents to prevent foaming during the boiling of cellulose, pulp refining, paper manufacture and the dispersion of pigments for paper production.
