Abstract: The invention relates to a process for reducing the permeation of blow-moulded hollow bodies made of thermoplastics, in particular of high molecular weight HDPE, in which the hollow body surfaces are flame-treated by means of a gas flame or are subjected to the effect of an electrical discharge in a gaseous atmosphere and subsequently, in a special operation, coated with a coating composition which is permeable only to a slight extent, if at all, to the filling material and/or the medium surrounding the hollow body. The coating material used are moisture-curing polyurethane prepolymers containing approximately 10 to approximately 90% by weight of fillers, homogeneously distributed. The fillers can also be applied in the form of an additional layer subsequently during the curing phase of the polyurethane prepolymers. The hollow bodies thus treated are suitable for storing hydrocarbon mixtures.
