    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing polyether polyols by reactin g diols or polyols with ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, butylene oxide or mixtures thereof in the presence of a multimetal cyanide complex catalyst. T he reaction is carried out in a vertical, high cylindrical reactor comprising a discharge nozzle which is situated in the upper reactor area and directed downwards, and by which means the educts and the reaction mixture are supplied; and an outlet which is preferably situated in the lower reactor ar ea and through which the reaction mixture is guided back to the discharge nozzl e by means of a pump and via an equalising reservoir, in an outer circuit. The reactor also comprises a concentric guiding pipe which extends over the enti re length of the reactor with the exception of the reactor ends, and a heat exchanger which is integrated into the annulus.

A process for the production of polyether polyols (I) by reaction of diols or polyols with ethylene oxide, propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide in the presence of a multi-metal cyanide complex catalyst (II) comprises carrying out the reaction in a tall cylindrical reactor having a downward facing spray nozzle in the upper reactor portion, through which the educts and reaction mixture are fed, and an outlet, preferably in the lower portion of the reactor, through which the reaction mixture is fed by means of a pump through an external circuit via an equalizing reservoir to the spray nozzle. The external circuit comprises a concentric pipe stretching the entire length of the reactor excluding the reactor ends and contains a heat exchanger integrated within the annulus.
