Abstract: Keratin fibres e.g. wool, and prods. made from them are impregnated in an aq. bath contg. (A) at least one salt of an acid contg. sulphur of oxidn. stage + 4, (B) one or more low-molecular cpds. contg. at least 2 N-methylol and/or N-methylol ether gps. and (C) a dispersion of at least one film-forming reactive polymer. After an opt. dwell time of up to 36 hr. at normal temp. the prod. is dried and fixed at 80-160 degrees C (110-140 degrees C). The simple, one-bath process gives excellent resistance to fetting and shrinkage. Since the bath is approx. neutral, no chemical degradation of the keratin or change in colour of dyed goods occurs. The treated goods show improved breaking and rub strength increased crease-resistance and reduced pilling, with no tendency to yellowing.
