    Abstract: The invention comprises aluminium alkoxy or aluminium aryloxy hydrides or their salts with an alkali metal hydride and having the formula Al(OR)nH3-n, Me(Al(OR)nH4-n) or Al2(OR)3H3 in which R is an alkyl group, a phenyl group or an alkyl-substituted phenyl group, Me is an alkali metal and n is equal to 1 or 2. They may be produced by reacting the corresponding aluminium alkoxy or aryloxy halide with an alkali metal halide in an inert solvent. Suitable solvents are, for example, ethers, hydrocarbons or tertiary amines. The reaction may be carried out at temperatures in the range 0-130 DEG C. and at atmospheric or superatmospheric pressure. Before the reaction starts there is preferably added to the reaction mixture a small amount of an aluminium alkyl, aluminium phenyl, aluminium alkoxy or aluminium phenyloxy hydride or a small amount of the product.

    Abstract: Polyethylene of density 0.91 to 0.94 is produced by polymerization of ethylene at 150 DEG to 300 DEG C. and 1500 to 3000 atmospheres in a tubular reactor with oxygen as catalyst and in the presence of a chain transfer agent, wherein the reaction mixture is heated to 168 DEG to 174 DEG C. in the reactor and then heat is immediately extracted externally through the reactor wall by means of a coolant whose temperature does not exceed 170 DEG C., the temperature of the reaction mixture not falling below 168 DEG C. In examples, the cooling medium used is water under pressure and at 160-170 DEG C. The transfer agent may be hydrogen, a hydrocarbon, an alcohol, an ester, an acid anhydride, an aldehyde or a ketone. Sheet of good transparency may be obtained.
