Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous dispersion suitable for priming a glasslike substrate, a mineral substrate in particular. SOLUTION: This priming method of mineral substrate comprises a process of applying an aqueous dispersion of composite particles to the mineral substrate. The dispersion is obtained by free-radical emulsion polymerization of a mixture of ethylenically unsaturated alkoxy silane monomer comprising addition polymer and finely particulate inorganic solid, and containing at least one kind of ethylenically unsaturated alcoxy silane monomer, in the presence of the finely particulate inorganic solid dispersely distributed in an aqueous medium and at least one kind of dispersion. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-based preparation that can be used in mineral formed products and gives a coating layer having low water absorption and causing no change giving adverse effects on its strength and optical appearance even after exposure to damp for a long time by using a polymer having a specific glass transition temperature and an anionic emulsifier. SOLUTION: The objective preparation comprises (A) at least one selected from polymers P that are composed of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer M, disperse in aqueous phase, have a glass transition point ranging from -25 to +80 deg.C, as a coating layer-forming component, (B) at least one selected from anionic emulsifiers consisting of salts of the formula (Alk is a 10-18C saturated alkyl; Et is 1,2-ethylene; (n) is 20-40; M+ is a monovalent cation or a cation equivalent) or a mixture thereof. In a preferred embodiment, at least one kind of nonionic emulsifier is contained in addition to the salt of the formula, and the total amount of the emulsifier is 0.2-10 wt.% based on the component A.

Abstract: The invention relates to the use of an emulsion polymer in aqueous cosmetic compounds. Said polymer (B) is composed of b1) 5-50 wt.% monomers with at least one ionic group, or group that can be converted to an ionic group, b2) 0-95 wt.% C1-C18 alkyl(meth)acrylates, vinylesters, vinyl aromatics or their mixtures, and b3) 0-50 wt.% other monomers. The glass transition temperature of the polymers obtained from monomer mixture (A) is lower than or equal to the glass transition temperature of polymer (B).

Also claimed is the above process for the prodn. of aq. polymer dispersions.
