Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a decrease in an operative life due to disintegration without nickel and cobalt by using a catalyst comprising ruthenium and a co-catalyst selected from the group consisting of rhodium, etc., in the respective specified weight ratios on a porous oxide. SOLUTION: Amination of alcohol, ketone or aldehyde is carried out by using a novel improved catalyst comprising 0.001-25 wt.% of ruthenium and 0-5 wt.% of a co-catalyst selected from the group consisting of iron, rhodium, palladium, platinum, iridium, osmium, copper, silver, gold, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, rhenium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, cesium, phosphorus, arsenic, antimony, bismuth, tellurium, thallium and their mixtures. Such catalyst is used advantageously not only in amination of alcohol but also in reductive aminating reactions of ketone and aldehyde.
