Abstract: PURPOSE: To upgrade color developing of red and yellow colors by using a specific azo dye. CONSTITUTION: An azo dye represented by a formula I is used, wherein X is represented by a formula II or III, wherein R is a hydrogen, 1-6C alkyl group or 4-4C alkyl 1-2C alkoxy as substituentes, or a phenyl group which may contain chlorine, bromine or a cyano, R is a hydrogen, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy or a group representing a chlorine or bromine, K is a radical of a coupling component (H-K) of aniline, aminonaphthalene, pyrazole, diaminopyridine, hydroxypyridone or tetrahydroquinoline series. Thus, good red and yellow color developing can be executed in a thermal transfer printing near a required characteristic profile.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To make azo dyes for thermal transfer printing more approximate to a required property profile as compared with the case of dyes known heretofore by constituting the azo dyes of a specific compd. CONSTITUTION: Azo dyes for thermal transfer printing are represented by the formula (wherein R is a hydrogen atom, a 1-15C alkyl group capable of having phenyl or phenoxy as a substituent or the like; and R and R are a hydrogen atom, an alkoxy group which may have up to 15C-atoms and can have phenyl, 1-4C alkyl phenyl or the like as a substituent or the like). Further, the azo dyes are transferred by diffusing a carrier on a support coated with plastic by using a thermal head. By this constitution, the azo dyes approximate to a required property profile as compared with the case of dyes known heretofore are obtained.
