Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing propylene homo- or copolymers by polymerising the parent monomer by means of a Ziegler- Natta catalyst system comprising (1) a finely divided titanium(III) component based on a cocrystallisate of the formula TiCl3.1/3AlCl3 and obtained by grinding, (2) an alkylaluminium component, and (3), if desired, a further cocatalyst component, in the gas phase in a stirred bed with dissipation of the heat of polymerisation by evaporative cooling, the monomer being introduced into a polymerisation reactor (P) and the polymer being discharged from (P), with the proviso that (a) the pressure and temperature in (P) are kept in a range which corresponds to the gaseous state of the monomer, (b) gaseous monomer not consumed by the polymerisation is discharged from (P), and the monomer is liquefied and stored in a condenser/cooler storage system and reintroduced into (P), (c) the temperature in the stirred bed is regulated by adjusting the amount introduced per time unit of liquid monomer evaporating in (P), and (d) the consumed monomer is replaced by fresh monomer, characterised in that the titanium(III) component (1) of the catalyst system is employed in the form of a relatively low-concentration suspension of the titanium(III) component in a liquid alkane, with the proviso that this suspension has been obtained by first vigorously stirring a very highly concentrated suspension of the titanium(III) component in the alkane for a certain period and is then diluted to the lower concentration using further alkane.

Abstract: 1,178,017. Stirring apparatus. BADISCHE ANILIN-& SODA-FABRIK A.G. 19. May, 1967 [21 May, 1966], No. 23401/67. Heading B1C. In a vessel 5 with a stirrer 4, the vortex 6 formed by the rotation of the liquid is reduced in depth by a baffle comprising a support 1 parallel to the stirrer axis, with vanes 2, 3 projecting from the support radially of the axis. The inner vanes 2 are inclined at a positive angle of incidence to the horizontal (i.e. they incline rearwardly and downwardly) and the outer vanes have a negative angle of incidence. The vanes may be flat or streamlined. The support and vanes may be hollow for the passage of heating or cooling fluid, and the incidence of the vanes may be varied by controls passing down the support.
