Abstract:
A process is disclosed for preparing water-soluble, carboxyalkylated, amino group-containing polymers by reacting water-soluble, amino group-containing polymers with at least one aldehyde and one alkaline cyanide or with a cyanhydrin from an aldehyde and an alkaline cyanide in an aqueous solution at temperatures from 60 to 110 °C. Also disclosed is the use of the carboxyalkylated polymers which contain amino groups and of the N-oxides derived therefrom as auxiliary agents for the production of paper, as additives of washing and cleaning agents and as complexing agents during wood pulp bleaching, cellulose bleaching, cellulose production and de-inking of used printed paper.
Abstract:
The disclosure concerns a method of producing water-soluble condensates and addition products containing amino groups and possessing enhanced de-watering and retention properties in paper production. Between 5 and 95 wt % of the condensates or addition products are removed as a permeate from solutions of water-soluble condensates or addition products containing amino groups by ultrafiltration through membranes and the condensates or addition products containing amino groups are if necessary isolated more efficiently from the retentate. The high-molecular polymer components contained in the residue are used as retention, de-watering and fixing agents in paper production, as promotors in gluing paper with alkyl diketenes, as flocculents for sewage sludges, as adhesives in the production of composite films, as additives to hair and skin conditioners and as an agent for immobilising anionic active substances.
Abstract:
In a cationic modification process for starch, starch is reacted with polymers that contain amino and/or ammonium groups in an aqueous medium at temperatures from 115 to 180 DEG C under an increased pressure and in the absence of oxidisers, polymerisation initiators and alkali. The reaction is conducted so that maximum 10% by weight starch has its molar weight reduced. Also disclosed is the use of the thus obtained reaction products as dry strength agents for paper.
Abstract:
The invention relates to modified cationic polymers which can be obtained by reacting (a) water-soluble, polymeric compounds containing NH groups with (b) compounds which are at least bifunctional with regard to NH groups, which contain at least one alkyl radical or alkenyl radical having at least 8 C atoms, and which contain, as a functional group, a halohydrin, epoxide, carboxyl, chloroformate or isocyanate group or a halogen atom. The invention also relates to a method for producing the polymers by reacting the compounds of groups (a) and (b), and to the use of the modified cationic polymers during the production of paper as fixing agents for papermaking stock containing interfering substances.
Abstract:
A process is disclosed for producing finely divided, water-insoluble aziridine polymers by polymerisation of aziridines, preferably ethylene imine, in the presence of cross-linking agents which contain at least two functional groups in at least one ether. Also disclosed are modified, water-insoluble aziridine polymers obtained by reacting finely divided, water-insoluble, cross-linked aziridine polymers in an aqueous medium with carbon bisulphide or formaldehyde and a nucleophilic agent from the group of the alkaline metal cyanides, primary amines, secondary amines, alkaline metal sulphites and alkaline metal phosphites. The invention also relates to the use of the modified and non-modified, finely divided, water-insoluble polymers for immobilising active substances, as absorbing agent for aldehydes, ketones and acids and for removing heavy metal ions from waste water.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing high dry-strength paper, pulpboard and cardboard by adding cationic, anionic and/or amphoteric starch as a dry-strength agent to the paper material, dehydrating the paper material to form sheets in the presence of cationic polymers as starch retention agents, and using cationic polymer retention agents to increase retention of dry-strength agents made from cationic, anionic and/or amphoteric starch during the production of paper, pulpboard and cardboard.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing paper, paperboard and cardboard by dehydrating paper material containing interfering substances in the presence of fixing agents. Reaction products are used as fixing agents. Said products are obtained by reacting polymers, containing amino and/or ammonium groups, from the group of: polymers containing vinyl amino units, polyalkylene polyamines, polyamidoamines, polyamidoamines grafted with ethylene imine and optionally cross-linked, polydiallydldimethylammoniumchlorides; polymers containing dialkylaminoalkylacrylamide-units or dialkylaminoalkylmethacrylamide units and polyallylamines and dicyandiamide-formaldehyde-condensates, with reactive sizing agents for paper with a polymer/reactive sizing agent weight ratio of 15,000 : 1 to 1 : 1. The invention also relates to reaction products thus obtained and to their use as fixing agents for water soluble and water insoluble interfering substances in the production of paper, paperboard and cardboard from paper materials containing interfering substances.

Aqueous dispersions of water-soluble polymers of N-vinyl carboxylic acid amides that comprise the following in relation to 100 parts by weight of water: (A) 5-80 parts by weight of a water-soluble polymer containing N-vinylformamide and/or N-vinyl acetamide with particle sizes ranging from 50 nm 2 νm and (B) 1-50 parts by weight of at least one polymer dispersion agent that is incompatible with the water-soluble polymers (A) in an aqueous solution. The invention also relates to a method for the production of said dispersions by polymerization of (A) 5-80 parts by weight of N-vinyl formamide and/or N-vinylacetamide, optionally together with other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers that form water-soluble polymers, and (B) 1-50 parts by weight of at least one polymer dispersion agent that is incompatible with the polymers formed from the monomers (A) in an aqueous solution, in 100 parts by weight of water at temperatures ranging from 30-95 °C in the presence of 0.001-5.0 wt. % in relation to the monomers used. The invention further relates to the use of aqueous dispersions of water-soluble polymers as dehydrating agents.
