Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung einer quartären Ammoniumverbindung, bei dem man eine Aminverbindung, die wenigstens ein sp 3 -hybridi siertes Stickstoffatom enthält, bei Umgebungsdruck mit einem Dialkylsulfat unter Einsatz beider Alkylgruppen des Dialkylsulfats umsetzt und die so erhaltene quartäre Ammoniumverbindung mit Sulfatanionen gegebenenfalls einem Anionenaustausch unterzieht.

Beschrieben wird ein kontinuierliches Verfahren zur Herstellung von Alkylnitriten und -dinitriten, bei dem man (I) ein Alkanol oder Dialkanol mit einer wässrigen Lösung einer Mineralsäure mischt,wobei man im Mittel nicht mehr als 1,01 Mol Säureäquivalente je mol Hydroxylgruppe des Alkanols oder Dialkanols einsetzt, (II) in einer Reaktionszone zu in (i) erhaltenem wässrigen Gemisch kontinuierlich eine wässrige Lösung eines anorganischen Nitrits gibt, und (III) gegebenenfalls die organische Phase isoliert.
