Abstract:
A coating composition includes a polyurethane polyol and a cross-linking agent. The coating composition is used in original equipment manufacturer (OEM) coating industries. The polyurethane polyol includes the reaction product of an isocyanate component and a first compound having at least two hydroxyl groups. The two hydroxyl groups of the first compound are separated by at least four carbon atoms. The separation of the two hydroxyl groups of the first compound allows the first compound to react with an amount of the isocyanate required to facilitate drying of the coating composition and reduce a chance that contaminants may settle into the coating composition.
Abstract:
An adhesion promoting composition includes a polymer, such as an acrylic copolymer, having acetoacetoxy functionality and adhesion-promoting functionality and a metal alkoxide, chelate, and/or alkoxide chelate. The composition is applied in a first layer over a metal substrate or a coated substrate, then coated with a desired refinish coating composition.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to coating compositions comprising (A) at least one binder containing hydroxyl groups, (B) at least one crosslinking agent and (C) at least one aromatic mono- and/or polycarboxylic acid and/or at least anhydride of an aromatic mono- and/or polycarboxylic acid.
Abstract:
Disclosed are a method of dispersing a pigment, a pigment dispersion, a coating composition comprising said pigment dispersion, an method of making a coating composition, and a method of improving the appearance of a coating composition. The pigment dispersion of the invention requires at least one pigment subjected to an action to decrease the average particle size of the pigment in the presence of an amine functional cellulose ester resin. The amine functional cellulose ester resins comprise at least one repeat unit of the structure:wherein R1, R2, and R3 are selected independently from the group consisting of hydrogen, R4C=O, andwherein at least one of R1, R2, and R3 is hydrogen, at least one of R1, R2, and R3 is R4C=O, and at least one of R1, R2, or R3 have the structureR4 is selected from the group consisting of C1-C20 alkyl groups, C1-C20 phenyl groups, C1-C20 napthyl groups, and C1-C20 alkenyl groups, L is a divalent linking group and R6 is selected from the group consisting of H and compounds having at least one secondary amine group, tertiary amine group, and mixtures thereof.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a coating composition comprising no more than 2.00 % by weight nonvolatile of Si-containing compounds, based on the total nonvolatile weight of the coating composition, and from 0.25 to no more than 5.0 % by weight of a volatile linear siloxane of a particular formula. The invention also provides a method of providing a cured coating composition having an improved distinctness of image as well as a method of coating a substrate. The compositions of the invention have improved resistance to visual defects believed to be caused by surface contamination, such as "fisheyes" or "cratering" and "telegraphing".
