Abstract: Propane is ammoxidised in the gas phase by contacting with oxygen, ammonia and, if desired, water, in the presence of a catalyst based on iron, antimony and oxygen under elevated temperature and pressure, using a catalyst represented by the formula E d Fe a Sb b O c I where E is vanadium, chromium and/or niobium, a is 1, b is a real number from 1 to 8, c is a real number from 2.5 to 18, and d/c is in the range from 0.01:1 to 1:1.
