The invention relates to a method for producing water-absorbing polymer particles by means of the spray polymerisation of a monomer solution. According to said method, the monomer solution is sprayed and at least one cross-linking agent is enriched in the region of the drop surface. The invention also relates to the water-absorbing polymer particles thus produced, and hygiene items containing said water-absorbing polymer particles.
