Abstract: A liquid dispenser (7) uses a flexible bag (9) having expansible and collapsible cells (61). A rigid manifold (95), and in one instance a rigid frame (602) is provided in the bag to keep passages open in use and to isolate one of the cells from the remaining cells. The dispenser employs an efficient and quiet air pressure operating system. In one application, a concentrated drink mix may be held in a reservoir and diluted within other cells in the bag for dispensing to a cup or the like. A valve system allows for the particulates in the liquid without compromising the function of the valve.

Abstract: A device is provided for the detection of gas, e.g. air in tubing (14) carrying a liquid. The device includes a transmitter (21) for transmitting a light beam to the liquid contained in the tubing (14), and first and second light receivers (20a, 20b) for receiving reflected and transmitted light emitted from the transmitter (21) and which is incident upon the liquid in the tubing. The light receivers are located within a body member (12) around the liquid conducting tubing and each produces a signal according to the condition of the liquid in the tubing. Both receivers produce such a given signal when gas is present in the liquid but each receiver also produces such a signal under a different liquid condition. A processing means (33) is provided which is responsive to the outputs from the two receivers and indicates that gas is present in the tubing only when both provide said given signal.

The valve has a first chamber (40) at a first pressure wherein said first chamber (40) defines an outlet (28) in communication with said first chamber (40). A second chamber (42) is at a second pressure. Abstract: A method for manufacturing in which a fluent material (F) is dispensed to an article such as a container (10) from a flexible bag (16). The fluent materi al (F) is dispensed directly to the container (10) without any intervening structure which contacts the fluent material. Accordingly, the apparatus (12 ) can be constructed of less expensive materials and does not require frequent cleaning. The apparatus (12) acts on the bag (16) to dispense and does not a ct on the fluent material (F). Thus, the apparatus (12) has particular application where aseptic conditions need to be maintained such as in the packaging of the food and medicine. The flexible bag (16) is preferably form ed with multiple outlets permitting simultaneous dispensing to multiple containers (10).
