Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively prevent the careless infection of a particulate bacterium or virus in air or an accident which occurs when blood is collected. SOLUTION: A cannula consists of a housing provided with an inlet and an outlet to form a fluid passage between them, a means for forming an access hole which communicates with the fluid passage, and a flexible means which is supported by the housing to seal the access hole, and which is provided with an opening to be re-sealed and a curved outer peripheral front surface inside, with which the blunt cannula is sealed and inserted through the opening to be re-sealed, arranged by communication with the passage concerning the fluid and is removed from the arrangement, and which flexible means mutually works with the housing to re-seal the opening to be re-sealed in the case of removal.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent infection by an annular bacterium or a virus in the air due to carelessness that may occurs during blood collection. SOLUTION: The cannula is composed of a housing 14 having an inlet and an outlet, and forming a fluid passage between them, a means to form an access hole communicating with the fluid passage, and a flexible means supported by the housing and intended to seal the access hole, and having an opening 22 that can be resealed and a curved outside peripheral surface in that. Therefore, the flexible means can seal a dull cannula 12 through the resealable opening, arrange in the passage and the fluid passage, remove the dull cannula, and interact with the housing so as to reseal the resealable opening.

Abstract: A pre-slit injection site (34) includes a housing (40) with a flow path therethrough. A first end (42) of the housing (40) carries a pre-slit septum (52). One form of a blunt cannula (98), usable with the injection site (34), carries a locking member (100). When the pre-slit injection site (34) slidably receives the blunt cannula (98), the locking member (100) latches to the injection site (34) and creates a mechanically coupled unit. Another form of the cannula (280) includes a tube having a tapered distal end region (298) and having elongate discharge slots (294) for reducing contact surface area and for directing the flow laterally out of the cannula. The cannula may also include a rounded lead post (330), an annular barb (394), and axially oriented grooves (268).

Abstract: A needleless connector (450) is provided which utilizes a resealable preslit septum valve (402). The valve (402) is resiliently restrained relative to a housing (418) with the valve and housing configured to accept a standard male luer lock having a luer tip (18) which penetrates the valve through the opening to extend within the housing and a luer locking flange of the luer lock extending about the housing. The valve (402) includes a disk shaped upper portion (404) covering the opening, a lower portion (406) spaced from the housing (418) and extending downward from the disk shaped portion into a passageway defined by the housing (418), and an annular skirt (408) to attach the septum to the housing.
