Abstract: 1379506 Micro-organism sampling device BAXTER LABORATORIES Inc 23 May 1972 [25 May 1971] 24158/72 Heading C6F A test device useful for determining the presence of micro-organisms on a flat surface includes a shallow plastics receptacle 15, Fig.3, containing gelled culture medium, and a resiliently flexible side wall 18 permitting distension thereof when the top of the side wall is pressed against the flat surface so that the medium is brought into contact with the flat surface. The top portion may be formed as an out-turned rolled rim, as shown in Fig.3, or include upwardly extending and distendible tabs. Alternatively, the side wall itself may be provided with convolutions which yield under stress. The device may have a cover with depending lugs or a downwardly depressed skirt 20, Fig.5.

Abstract: 1324229 Culture dish BAXTER LABORATORIES Inc 24 Nov 1971 [24 Nov 1970] 54515/71 Heading C6F A culture dish 11 has a shelf 17 at one side and contains a roller 22, the roller being held in position on the shelf by a projection 28 from the lid of the dish. The roller may be smooth or may have an uneven surface. The bottom of the dish may be marked with a grid. The cover may contain a second barrier at the opposite end of the lid. In operation the dish is filled to about the level of the shelf with gelled nutrient medium on which inoculant is spread in the vicinity of the shelf, so that by lifting the lid and tilting the dish the roller is caused to traverse the dish, thus depositing the inoculant throughout the surface, and the roller may be trapped at the opposite end of the dish by the second barrier. The dish may be supplied containing a layer of nutrient medium.
