    Abstract: New potent lipoxygenase inhibitors which are 1H-pyrido-[2,3-b][1,4] thiazines are disclosed. The new thiazines are of the formula in which R1 denotes hydrogen, halogen, optionally substituted alkyl or alkoxy or the group in which R5 and R6 are identical or different and denote hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl or aryl, or can be linked to form a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring, R2 and R3 are identical or different and denote hydrogen or optionally substituted alkyl or alkoxy and R4 denotes hydroxyl, the group in which R5 and R6 have the abovementioned meaning, or, in the case where R3 denotes hydrogen or optionally substituted alkoxy, also denotes optionally substituted alkoxy.

    Abstract: omega-Isonitrilo-carboxylic acid esters of formula (I) (where A is a bivalent, linear or branched, opt. aryl-, aralkyl-, cycloalkyl or halogen-substd. 2-13C hydrocarbyl chain, which is opt. part of a carbocyclic system and/or can be interrupted by O or S; and R i alkyl, cycloalkyl, benzyl or Ph opt. substd. by halogen and =6C alkoxy gps.) are prepd. by reacting lactim ethers having formula (II) with CHCl3 in the presence of an aq. soln. or suspension of alkali-and/or alkaline earth hydroxides and phase transfer catalysts, pref. at 10-80 degrees C. (I) are intermediates for the prepn. of plant protective agents and pharmaceuticals and may also be used in peptide synthesis. The process is simple and economical and does not require the use of absolutely anhydrous solvents.
