Abstract:
Natural and synthetic rubber latices containing emulsifiers are coagulated to form coarsely divided porous coagulates by mixing the latex with an aqueous electrolyte solution, preferably by means of a mixing nozzle, the weight ratio between the electrolyte and the solid rubber in said latex being below 1, passing the mixture of latex and electrolyte along a flow pipe, the flow in said flow pipe being laminar and the dwell time being between 2 and 20 seconds and recovering from said flow pipe a latex-free coagulate in the form of a soft porous strand. Also a mixture of butadiene/acrylonitrile and styrene/acrylonitrile latices, and mixtures of rubber latices with latices of vinyl chloride polymers may be used.
