PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel compound which is useful as a synthetic intermediate for a dihydropyridine derivative used in treatment of circulatory disorder and cardiovascular functional disorder. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I [R is a (substituted) 1-12C alkyl, an alkenyl; Y is formula II (B is-NH; R is a 1-12C alkyl; R is H, a 1-12C alkyl; A is H, methyl);D is O, -NH; E is two H, =CHR (R is a 1-6C alkyl)], typically (1R,2S)-[ 1-methyl-2-methoxycarbonyl-2-(4-tolylsulfamoyl)] ethyl 1,4-dihydro-2,6-dimetyl-3-nitro-4-phenylpyridine-5-carboxylate. The compound of formula I is prepared by reaction of a compound of the formula: HO-Y with diketene of formula III.
