Abstract: A flexible pumping strand is formed from a plurality of steel wires stranded or held together within an abrasion resistant flexible outer plastic jacket perforated at intervals along its length, each of the plurality of steel wires being coated with an imperforate corrosion resistant plastic bonded to the surface of the wire. A method of forming the flexible pumping strand and the perforations in the outer coating of the strand involving the use of steam induced perforation during extrusion of the plastic jacket over the strand is also disclosed.
