Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the reliability or scanning or a register mark without accepting a larger register mark by extending a basic area after determination of this area to scan a pilot mark. CONSTITUTION: A means which calculates and stores offline positions (Δx, Δy) between topographical centers (6a to 6c) of fundamental areas (5a to 5c) and those (7a to 7c or 12a to 12c) of detected color pilot marks (4a to 4c or 10a to 10c) along abscissas and ordinates, a means which extend basic areas (5a to 5c), and a means which converts stored measured offline positions (Δx, Δy) to control values which are used so as to act on a mismatching correction device are provided. In this case, color pilot marks 4a, 4b, and 4c correspond to print units which print blue, red, and yellow respectively. Thus, a print control sign can be always arranged on a web 2 to extent the surface which can be used for a print motif.
