Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce friction resistance of a chain between itself and a chain guide or a tensioner, generate uniformly a load share along a link train, reduce a cost, and facilitate manufacture and assembly, in a silent chain. SOLUTION: Several link plates 170 in a low back part height, which is a height between a horizontal line connecting an opening hole center and the highest point on an outer side surface, and several link plates 180 in a high back part height are combined, to be arranged. During operation, since only the link plate 180 in a high back part height is slid on a chain guide or a tensioner, friction resistance between a chain and the chain guide or the tensioner can be reduced. A thickness t2 of the link plate 170 is larger than a thickness t1 of the link plate 180. In this way, rigidity of both the link plates 170, 180 is made roughly equal, a load share along a link train can be uniformly generated.

SOLUTION: A hydraulic tensioner 11 is composed of a housing 25 having a hole 23; a piston 50 slidablby in the hoe 23; a spring 53 to energize the piston 50 in the projecting direction from the hole 23: a valve 10 to allow the flow of a fluid from a pressurized fluid source into a chamber 22, and to block the floe of the fluid in the reverse direction practically; a flow passage 24 formed in the housing 25 to connect the chamber 22 to pressurized fluid source; and an arm with fulcrum to maintain the contact condition of the end of the piston 50 with a pair of chain guide arms. And, the piston 50 is moved to the outer side from the hole 23 by the flow of the fluid into the chamber 22.
