    Abstract: A compressor housing (12) for a turbocharger includes a recirculation cavity (4) formed in a portion of the compressor housing (12). The recirculation cavity (4) is defined by an inner cavity wall (2) and an outer cavity wall (5). In addition, an inlet groove (1) and an outlet (7) are formed in the recirculation cavity (4) for circulating airflow from the compressor housing (12) through the recirculation cavity (4), and at least one recirculation noise obstruction (6) is fixedly secured within the recirculation cavity (4) to disrupt air flow through the cavity and reduce noise in the compressor housing (12).

    Abstract: A compressor housing assembly houses a compressor wheel of a turbocharger. The compressor housing includes a first housing component and a second housing component. The first housing component includes a first housing component wall disposed about and extending along an axis and defining a compressor housing inlet. The second housing component includes a body portion and a second housing component wall. The body portion is disposed about the axis and is coupled to the first housing component wall. The first and second housing component walls collectively define a resonator cavity for reducing noise within the compressor housing inlet. A resonator orifice fluidly couples the resonator cavity to the compressor housing inlet. The resonator orifice is configured to allow air from the compressor housing inlet to flow to the resonator cavity and air from the resonator cavity to flow to the compressor housing inlet.

    Abstract: A turbocharger (20) includes ported shroud compressor housing (28) disposed about compressor wheel (36) having air inlet passage (33) extending axially along and circumferentially about a longitudinal axis (A), volute base portion (50) operably adjacent to compressor wheel (36), contour that encircles and complementarily matches compressor wheel (36), inducer (54) including ring (60) and plurality of extending members (62), inlet section (56) extending from volute base portion (50), and recirculation cavity (70) formed in volute base portion (50) and inlet section (56) with recirculation slot (80) and inlet re-entry slot (82) for reentry of airflow into inlet section (56). The ring (60) has inner wall surface (66) defining first section (84) extending axially along longitudinal axis (A) proximate to compressor wheel (36), second section (86) extending from first section (84) radially away from longitudinal axis (A), and third section (88) extending from second section (86) radially away from and along longitudinal axis (A) and distal to compressor wheel (36). The inlet section (56) has first diameter (Dl) and third section (88) has second diameter (D2) being either one of equal to or less than first diameter (Dl).
