Abstract: To wind a rubber strip material around a forming drum, a rubber strip material S extruded from a die 2 of an extruder 1 is spirally wound by an applicator 6 and formed around the forming drum 5 which is being rotated. In the forming operation, the peripheral speed Vd of the forming drum 5 is set lower than the extrusion speed Ve of the rubber strip material S from the die 2 of the extruder 1, that is, to a peripheral speed of 0.6 to 0. 95 times the extrusion speedVe and preferably to aperipheral speed about 0.9 times the extrusion speed Ve. With this arrangement, the rubber strip material stretched by die swelling can be contracted, a tire structural member can be formed around the forming drum with high accuracy at all times independently of the kind of the rubber strip material, and workability as well as shape stability after the rubber strip material is formed can be enhanced.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a pneumatic tire including insert plies (35) in its sidewall portions, wherein said insert plies are formed on an outer peripheral side of a carcass band (31), said method comprising the steps, for forming a green tire, of radially outwardly expanding a widthwise center portion of a substantially cylindrical carcass band (31) having marginal portions to which bead rings (32) are attached, by moving the bead rings axially toward each other; forming the insert plies (35) by applying, on both side portions of the carcass band (31) separated from each other with the center portion therebetween, reinforcing cords (34) to extend approximately in parallel with the circumferential direction; and enhancing a degree of radial expansion of the carcass band (31) by further moving the bead rings (32) axially toward each other, so as to increase a tension of the reinforcing cords (34) and thereby bring an outer face of a resultant crown portion into contact with a belt and a tread for joining.

Abstract: Tire rubber material is highly accurately and efficiently extruded by a positive displacement extruding system (1) that includes, as seen from an upstream side of the tire rubber, a screw extruder unit (2), a gear pump unit (3) and an extrusion head unit (4)with an extrusion nozzle (5), which are connected in series with each other. While the tire rubber is caused to flow through the extruding system (1), the temperature of the rubber material is measured and controlled to be within a predetermined temperature range, in accordance with the measured temperature of the rubber material. The rubber material maintained at a controlled temperature is extruded from the extrusion nozzle (5), thereby improving the positive displacement performance of the extruding system.
