A method for the detoxification of a mustard gas by reaction with a bis-tertiary diamine resulting in quaternary ammonium ionene polymers. Sulfur-containing quaternary ammonium ionene polymers which are useful as microbicides for controlling the growth of microorganisms in aqueous systems and on surfaces, as well as for inhibiting slime formation in aqueous systems and biocidal compositions contain effective amounts of the sulfur-containing quaternary ammonium ionene polymers.

Group 1 or 2 metal salts of N-cyanodithioiminocarbonate are prepared by reacting cyanamide, carbon disulfide and a Group 1 or 2 metal hydroxide, preferably in a methanolic solvent. These salts can be converted to metal salts of S-substituted N-cyanodithioiminocarbonates, which react with hydrazine or its hydrate to yield the metal salt of 3-mercapto-5-amino-1H-1,2,4-triazole. Sodium S-methyl N-cyanodithioiminocarbonate is a novel compound.

A microbicidal composition comprising an aqueous solution containing a sulfur-containing quaternary ammonium ionene polymer comprising a repeating unit of formula II: wherein X &upbar& is a counter-ion; R and R , which can be the same or different, are selected from a lower alkyl group and -CH2-CH2-OH; A' is a radical selected from -S-, -S-CH2-CH2-S-, -S-S- and the oxidation products of -S-, of -S-CH2CH2-S- and of -S-S-; and B is a radical selected from C1-C5 alkyl, -CH2-CH(OH)-CH2-, and -(CH2)m-O-(CH2)m-, where each m is independently 1,2, or 3, and wherein said sulfur-containing quaternary ammonium ionene polymer is present in an amount effective to inhibit the growth of at least one microorganism.

Se describen los polímeros de ioneno tabletizados, métodos para su preparacion y su uso en tratamiento de aguas. La tableta contiene aproximadamente 5 a aproximadamente 60 porciento en peso de un polímero de ioneno, aproximadamente 40 a aproximadamente 95 porciento en peso de una matriz del portador de sal, 0 a aproximadamente 20 porciento en peso de un regulador de la velocidad de desintegracion, y 0 a aproximadamente 10 porciento en peso de un agente de anticompactado. A composition for the treatment of helminth infections in an animal comprising an effective amount of at least one ionene polymer and a physiologically acceptable carrier other than water is disclosed. Also disclosed is a method for the treatment of a helminth infection in an animal.
