    Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve a mechanical stability by providing a light absorbing layer containing a thermoplastic binder made of a polycyclic hydrocarbon of a specific composition and one or more types of dye, and forming an optical recording medium, thereby suppressing a crystal of the layer. CONSTITUTION: A light absorbing layer containing a thermoplastic binder made of a polycyclic hydrocarbon soluble in a content of 3 wt.% or more in the case of an aliphatic hydrocarbon and an aromatic hydrocarbon and having a glass transition temperature of 150 deg.C or higher and one or more types of dye is provided on a support to form the optical recording medium. The polycyclic hydrocarbon of a unit represented in a content of 80% or more by a formula I (wherein n is an integer of 10 to 1,000, R , R to R , R10 are each independent from each other a hydrogen atom and/or 1-3C alkyl group) is preferable.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To detect cracks in a metal with excellent sensitivity by using a compound to be selected from among a group of phthalocyanine or the like containing metals or containing no metals having the wavelength of maximum absorption and maximum fluorescence in the specific range as a crack reagent. CONSTITUTION: A compound to be selected among the group of phthalocyanine, naphthalocyanine, aluminum compound of aromatic amine, methine dye, or azulene-squaric acid dye containing metals or containing no metals having the maximum absorption and the maximum fluorescence in the wavelength range of 620-1200nm is used as a crack reagent. The reagent solution is applied to a test specimen such as an aluminum block which is degreased and polished, the block is irradiated with semiconductor laser beams having maximum emission wavelength in the spectrum range λmax -100 to λmax +20nm of the maximum absorption wavelength of the marker substance, and the excited fluorescence is detected by a semiconductor detector, Because the fluorescence can easily be detected even in the sunshine, no expensive lamp is necessary, and a darkened visual test box can be dispensed with.
