Abstract: PURPOSE: To uniformly dye polyamide fibers under slightly acidic conditions without any damage by using 1:1 chromium complexes of sulfo-containing azo or azomethine dyes as their betaine forms. CONSTITUTION: The 1:1 chromium complexes of sulfo-containing azo or azomethine dyes are converted into their betaine forms by well-known methods. Natural polyamide fibers (wool) or synthetic polyamide fibers are uniformly dyed in the slightly acidic bath (for example, in formic acid). This new method has the advantage of uniformly dyeing wool without any damage, which is not attained by usual dyeing methods.
