Abstract: A urethral stent is disclosed for the nonsurgical management of bladder outlet obstruction caused by an enlarged prostate. The stent is sufficiently rigid to provide support to assure patency of an intact but contracted urethral lumen but is sufficiently flexible to accommodate the natural anatomical bend of the prostatic urethra. The stent further includes means for frictionally engaging the urethral walls to anchor the device within the prostatic urethra and to prevent migration back into the bladder or down the urethra. When the need arises, the stent is easily and nonsurgically removed from the prostatic urethra.

Abstract: L'invention se rapporte à un écarteur urétral de Stent, qui sert au traitement non chirurgical des obstructions des voies vésicales causées par une hypertrophie de la prostate. L'écarteur est suffisamment rigide pour servir de support maintenant non obstrué un orifice urétral intact mais contracté, tout en étant suffisamment flexible pour permettre la flexion anatomique naturelle de l'urètre prostatique. L'écarteur comprend en outre des organes de prise par friction en contact avec les parois urétrales, de façon à ancrer le dispositif dans l'urètre prostatique et l'empêcher de rmonter dans la vessie ou de descendre le long du l'urètre. En cas de besoin, l'écarteur peut être retiré de l'urètre prostatique facilement et sans acte chirurgical.
