Abstract:
A vehicle masking material and method of use. The masking material in one embodiment includes polyvinyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, glycerine or triethylene glycol, a surfactant, and water. The masking material is applied to a surface which is to be protected from paint overspray or other mechanical process, allowed to dry, and paint is applied. After drying of the paint, the masking material is removed by peeling or water washing.
Abstract:
Methods are provided for protecting exterior surfaces of automobiles and other products, or components of products, against abrasion, abrasive dust, water, acid rain, etc. The methods involve applying to a surface a protective coating composition comprising an emulsion selected from the group consisting of a vinyl-acrylic copolymer emulsion and a vinyl acetate-ethylene emulsion. The emulsion is dried to form a water-resistant protective coating that can be removed from the underlying surface by peeling when no longer desired.
Abstract:
This invention provides methods and compositions for the temporary protection of activated plastic surfaces. The methods involve application of protective coating compositions to activated surfaces thereby protecting the surfaces from oxidation, soiling and mechanical damage. The coatings may be easily washed off leaving a clean activated surface suitable for overcoating.
Abstract:
A vehicle masking material and method of use. The masking material in one embodiment includes a dextrin, a plasticizer, and water. The masking material may additionally include a surfactant. The masking material is applied to a surface which is to be protected from paint overspray or other coating processes, allowed to dry, and the surface is coated (e.g. with paint). After drying of the paint, or other coating, the masking material is removed by water washing.
Abstract:
Compositions are provided for protecting exterior surfaces of automobiles and other products, or components of products, against abrasion, abrasive dust, water, acid rain, etc. Methods of producing protective compositions where the degree of adhesion of the composition may be simply governed are also provided. One composition comprises an acrylic copolymer, a heat reactive acrylic latex polymer, and a wax. The composition may additionally comprise a pigment and/or a thickener. Other compositions comprise a poly(carboxylic acid), a poly ether, and optionally a pigment. The compositions dry on the exterior surfaces to form a tough flexible coating that can be removed by mechanical peeling.
Abstract:
A composition is provided for protecting exterior surfaces of automobiles and other products against abrasive dust, acid rain, etc. The composition is applied as a mixture of water solubilized acrylic acid copolymer, pH-neutral acrylic copolymer, alkyl alcohol, surfactant, and water. The composition dries on the exterior surface to form a tough flexible coating that can be removed by an alkaline aqueous detergent solution.
