Jacks.-A lifting-jack comprises a base-plate 1 carrying a bracket 2 for a lever 4 arranged between brackets carrying a lifting-bar 6 and a cam actuating-lever 7 respectively. When the actuating-lever is moved down, the lifting-bar and load are raised. A pivoted cross-piece 11 can be moved to prevent the return of the lever and thus to sustain the load. Ball bearings may be provided on one or each of the engaging surfaces. The cap of the lifting-bar is loosely mounted.
