Abstract: A sensor configuration and signal processing, which are not affected by a paper rise when a print pattern for auto head shading and density correction is read, are provided. A predetermined print pattern is printed with a plurality of heads, and the predetermined pattern that is printed is scanned with a sensor (110) to detect a density unevenness for the print pattern in each color on a nozzle basis. The sensor (110) comprises a light emitting element which emits a light including all light regions, R, G, and B, and a plurality of light receiving elements each of which receives R, G, and B lights, respectively. The plurality of light receiving elements are arranged in a main scanning direction. The print pattern printed by each head is read by the light receiving element for the complementary color light of the pattern and the light receiving element for a non-complementary color light of the pattern, and a change in density level in the nozzle column direction is detected based on the difference between the two outputs.

Abstract: An ink type image forming device which accurately identifies a print pattern (test pattern) even in the case where a recording medium is somewhat raised or the recording medium is low in reflectance in an attempt to find a deviation in relative position of recording heads. When the output of a light receiving element (22) is substracted from the output of a light receiving element (21), both the outputs are offset by each other since variations in output are small at an area where the recording medium is raised. In the meantime, the light receiving elements are spaced in the direction (X) of movement of a carriage, and the output of the light receiving element corresponding to respective areas which constitute the print pattern steeply changes. As a result, a peak signal corresponding to the respective areas of the print pattern is obtained as a difference signal of outputs of the light receiving elements (fig. 8 (d)). Accordingly, even if the recording medium happens to be raised, positions where the respective areas of the print pattern are existant can be positively detected.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an adequate image by minimizing an influence of the occurrence of ink mist even when a desired output from a linear scale sensor is not gained by virtue of the occurrence of the ink mist.
SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus comprises a linear scale provided to a scanning path of a carriage in parallel thereto, the linear scale sensor 402 which is mounted on the carriage and generates a plurality of phase signals by moving along the linear scale, and a plurality of counting means (edge detection circuits a-f and linear scale counters a-f) for discriminating positions of the carriage by using arbitrary two phases in the plurality of phase signals. One which mostly adequately acts can be selected from among the plurality of counting means.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform crop printing well without increasing the cost significantly even in case of a broadsheet printer.
SOLUTION: When crop printing is performed, print start position and print end position of a print head 103 are set on the outside of the end part of a sheet, and print density is reduced in the end area of the sheet when the print head 103 performs print scanning of that area. Preferably, image data is masked sequentially by different mask data when the print head 103 performs print scanning such that the density is varied stepwise from the outside toward the inside of a print sheet in the end area of the sheet.

(C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
