CONSTITUTION:With the reception of recording data from a host computer 1100, a carriage 5 travels, a locking claw 665 is released, and a separation roller 65 starts rotating. When the leading edge of recording paper is detected by a paper end sensor 1142 disposed between a paper feed roller 7 and the separation roller 65, the carriage 5 is returned to the side of recovery device 150. At this time, the width and presence of paper is detected by a paper width sensor 1143 provided on the carriage 5. If it is not detected, a paper feed failure is judged. At this time, the disengaging action of the locking claw 665 at the time of a paper feed by the carriage 5 is conducted at least twice. After the paper feed is completed in this manner, the carriage 5 reciprocates in the width direction of recording paper, and a recording is performed while a paper feed roller 7 feeds the paper at every one-line recording by the recording head 51.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To certainly hold the stability of a recording element by resetting a recording head at a predetermined position when recovery processing is performed after opening and closing operation is performed and applying capping. CONSTITUTION:Opening and closing operation is performed by a method wherein a carriage 2 is subjected to slight reciprocating operation, that is, said carriage 2 is moved to the right from a cap position to be again returned. Thereafter, an atmosphere communicating operation flag is turned ON and an exciting state is released in order to prevent the heating of a carriage motor to stop holding. When atmosphere communicating operation is finished, the excitation of the carriage motor is out off and there is no security such that the atmosphere communicating hole 6b of a cap 6 is in a closed state. Then, the atmosphere communicating hole of the cap is closed by again applying capping and, thereafter, recovery operation is taken for the first time. That is, the carriage is certainly moved to the home position before the recovery operation is taken. When atmosphere communicating operation is not finished, since the phase of the motor is low voltage but a hold state is kept, the atmosphere communicating hole 6b is certainly closed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To achieve prevention of inferiority of ink discharge of an ink jet head when printing operation is started again by a method wherein a sheet jam is detected by detection of variation of a sheet width during printing or of a sheet residue after delivering paper, and ink recovery operation is performed before printing operation is started again after removing a jam. CONSTITUTION:In the case where a width of a sheet 8 becomes shorter than the width in printing of a preceding line is detected during printing, or otherwise though the sheet 8 is delivered, the sheet 8 is detected to still remain in its position with a sheet sensor 12, generation of a sheet jam is identified, and a sheet jam generation signal is transmitted to a MCU 22. When the sheet jam generation signal is received with the MCU 22, printing is stopped and besides, an ink jet head 4 is transferred to a position of a cap 14 by driving a carriage 3. An orifice face of the ink jet head 4 is capped. Thereafter, operation for removing a sheet jam is performed. When the sheet jam is removed, ink is discharged by sucking from each orifice by operating a recovery pump 15, and ink recovery operation is performed. After ending this ink recovery operation, printing is again started.

CONSTITUTION:A controlling part 2 calculates the first address for character data corresponding to a high-quality character code transferred. Next, only odd-numbered column character data are read and developed into a printing butter memory 5, and the first printing is performed. Then, multiple-time print ing discrimination information stored in an information table 7 is referenced, and when there are character data for the second printing, only even-numbered column character data are read and developed into the memory 5. When develop ment of data for all characters are finished, the second printing is performed to print even-numbered columns of each character pattern. When the character data are constituted of only the odd-numbered column character data, printing of the needless even-numbered columns is not performed.

Further, a replaceable fort cartridge 3 having a memory part storing several kinds of character founts is inserted in the recording apparatus 5. The character font of the font cartridge 3 is processed on the basis of the control program read from the control cartridge 1 or preliminarily provided in the recording apparatus 5 and recorded on a recording medium through a recording part. At the time, tailorability of character pattern data with the control program is judged.
