Abstract: PURPOSE:To make it possible to form very fine and clear images by using a recording material which comprises a base paper and an ink receiving surface provided on the base paper and having a specified roughness factor and which has a specified wetting time. CONSTITUTION:A recording paper comprises a base paper and an ink-receiving surface provided on the base paper. The ink-receiving surface has a roughness factor, measured by the Bristow method, of at least 10ml/m , and the recording material has a wetting time of at least 10msec. A fibrous substance of the base paper is present in the vicinity of a recording surface of the recording material, and the ink-receiving surface comprises a silicon-containing pigment and/or alumina particles with a BET specific surface area of less than 200m /g. A water-based ink, used at the time of ink jet recording and having a water content of 95-50wt.%, is released effectively from a nozzle to be given to the recording material, whereby a clear and very fine image with excellent dot shape can be obtained, because bleeding is not generated.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make possible the formation of a highly defined and sharp image with excellent dot shape and ideal ink droplet blotting rate, and further quick ink absorptive property, if a coated layer is thin by using paper in which data is recorded with specific Steckigt size and ink blotting rate. CONSTITUTION:A recommendable material in which data are recorded is used that has a Steckigt size range of 0 to 15'' and an ink blotting rate (N) which satisfies formula N . In the formula, (n) is the number of characters put together, (d) an interval between nozzles (mm) and (D) an average ink droplet diameter (mm). This ink blotting rate (N) is expressed by N=R/D (in the formula, R is the diameter of dots on a material in which data is recorded and D the diameter of ink droplet). D is the diameter of an average discharged liquid obtained based on the measured volume of liquid droplets discharged from a nozzle, and R is the diameter of a dot area obtained by conversion of the area of dots obtained by allowing liquid droplets to attach to the material to the diameter of a circle.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance the density of a recording image and to obtain a high- quality and high-resolving image with superior ink absorptivity and dye color forming properties by a method wherein a material consists of a surface layer mainly composed of aluminum oxide particle and a bottom layer having ink absorptivity. CONSTITUTION:A material to be recorded consists of a surface layer containing aluminum oxide particle and a bottom layer having ink absorptivity. The aluminum oxide particle in use preferably has a BET specific surface area of 60-170m /g. For imparting superior shelf stability in room, the aluminum oxide particle in use pre has an average particle diameter of 5mum or less, or more pref. that of 1mum or less. It is preferable that 80wt.% or more aluminum oxide particle is contained as a pigment forming the surface layer.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a recording material having rapid ink-absorbing properties, being excellent in dot shape, having a favorable coefficient of bleeding of ink droplets and suitable for forming highly fine clear images and a recording method using the same, by using a cationic filler and specifying the ash content of a base paper and the stockigt sizing degree of a recording material. CONSTITUTION:A low sizing degree base paper comprising s fibrous substance and a cationic filler is used as a base. The content of the filler in the base paper in terms of ash quantity according to JIS-P-8128 is 2-15wt.%, and the Stockigt sizing degree of a recording paper comprising a coated layer on the base paper is controlled to within the range of 1-15sec. An ash content of less than 2% causes heavy bleeding of ink droplets in the fiber directions on the surface of the base paper, a poor dot shape and excessively heavy bleeding of the ink droplets. An ash content of more than 15% causes the recording paper itself to be devoid of stiffness, and causes dusting from the base paper. If the sizing degree of the base paper is less than 4sec, a binder in a coating liquid is conspicuously absorbed into the base paper during coating, and dusting from the surface of the coated layer occurs.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain superior ink absorptivity and dye color forming properties to realize a high-quality image with a high resolving power, by a method wherein, a substrate and a porous ink accepting layer which contains a pigment and a binder and is disposed on the substrate are provided, and a degree of discoloration (DELTAb*) by a [4,4'-methylene-bis-2,6-(di-tertiary butyl phenol)] (BHT2) spot test is specified. CONSTITUTION:As a substrate, a paper, a synthetic paper, a plastic film, and others can be used, but a paper with a basis weight of approximately 50-250g/m is preferably used. A coating layer is formed on the substrate by using a coating liquid of a mixture of a pigment, a binder, and various types of additives, as necessary. In the process of producing a silica by causing a silicate or soda to react with a mineral acid in a water solution a water-soluble metal salt of Mg, Ca, Zn, or Ba is added thereto. The use of a pigment incorporating the metal in a part of the crystal structure of the silica in the above manner regulates a value DELTAb* by a spot test to 10 or less to make a material to be recorded available with little room discoloration.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a general-purpose and ink jet recording high-performance material to be recorded, which is enhanced in ink absorption and superior in color properties and dot shape to form a sharp image, by applying a specific polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) solution on the surface of the material to be recorded which is made of the substance and a filler. CONSTITUTION:In a material to be recorded which is made of a fiber substance and a filler, a PVA solution having a saponification degree not more than 90% is applied to at least one surface of the material. A paper used as a substrate is mainly composed of the fiber substance and the filler such as an inorganic pigment. Particularly, the filler is preferably contained in the range of 5-15wt.% (ash content), but especially preferably has a Steckigt sizing degree ranging 1-20sec. The PVA solution is applied to the paper in the range of 0.2-7g/m (solid content) desirably by a size pressing or gate roll coating method. The material to be recorded is suitably used for a general writing using a water ink and particularly for an ink jet recording.
