Abstract: A toner for developing electrostatic images is comprised of toner particles having a number average particle diameter of from 0.5 mu m to 5.0 mu m, in which toner particles with a particle diameter of 6.0 mu m or larger is included in a proportion of not more than 5% by number. The toner particles are obtained by a process having the steps of dispersing a monomer composition containing at least a colorant, a charge control agent, or a mixture of these, and a polymerizable monomer, in free space formed in a polymeric medium, and polymerizing the monomer composition dispersed in said free space.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a toner of small particle size which is capable of forming high-definition, high-quality images and a method of manufacture of toner particles whereby a toner of the desired small average particle size can be manufactured with a stable particle size distribution and high productivity. CONSTITUTION:The electrostatic charge image developing toner has toner particles with a number-average particle size of 0.5 to 5.0mum, in which toner particles of 6.0mum or more are 5 number percent or less, and a coloring agent, a charge controlling agent, or a mixture of them, and a monomer composition containing at least a polymeric monomer are all dispersed in a free space formed within a macromolecular medium, and the monomer composition dispersed in the free space is polymerized to obtain the toner particles.
