    Abstract: PURPOSE:To use a professional use optical system and to improve the definition in a two-dimensional way by picking up an image of an object at plural image forming positions (light receiving sections) at each of plural focal planes separately and deviating the light receiving sections of a specific column by a half pitch when the plural images are synthesized into one image. CONSTITUTION:An image pickup light from an object is divided into three light ray paths having nearly equal luminous quantity through three optical paths and an image of the object is formed to different positions and the object is synthesized in final signal processing, then the plural light receiving sections of each image pickup means are overlapped on the same plane and light receiving sections of (n+1)th column are arranged between light receiving sections of n-th column (n>=3) while being deviated by a half pitch. For example, When the light receiving sections of three, four and three columns each in the vertical direction, the light receiving sections of four columns are used for image forming planes C, B, A, C, and when the light receiving sections for the image forming plane C at both sides are protruded by the outside for a half, it is not required that the same group of the light receiving sections are not arranged adjacently in the longitudinal and lateral directions. Thus, the beam splitter technology is applied to increase considerably number of effective picture elements of the image pickup elements and then the picture quality is improved.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the picture quality of pickup images by increasing the number of valid picture elements with use of a general image pickup element and at the same time to improve the workability and the reliability by facilitating the bonding process. CONSTITUTION:The image pickup light L transmitted through a lens 1 is divided into the beams L1, L2, L3 and L4 of equal light quantity by the beam splitters 2a-2c and images are formed on the different image forming surfaces 3a-3d respectively. Then an image synthesizing circuit 5 synthesizes the image information received from the image pickup element chips 4a-4d whose light receiving parts are at the positions which are divided and are not adjacent from a subject image of each image forming surface. Furthermore the wirings which are connected to the joint part of the fringes of the chips 4a-4d are provided among the light receiving parts of these chips.
